Rate only how much you would like the situation.
Core task
Stroke unit
Stroke in the acute phase: thrombolysis, thrombectomy decisions, monitoring. Six months on a stroke unit are mandatory.
Core task
The neurological examination
Reflexes, power, sensation: from the examination you work out where the lesion is.
Core task
Rare conditions
Myasthenia, ALS, autoimmune encephalitis: sometimes you search a long time before the diagnosis is clear.
Electrophysiology
You evaluate EEGs, nerve conduction and evoked potentials yourself.
Chronic courses
You often follow MS, Parkinson’s and epilepsy over years.
Core task
Breaking hard news
ALS or progressive dementia: you explain what lies ahead, even when little can be cured.
Emergencies on call
Status epilepticus, brain haemorrhage, meningitis: on call, things often move fast.
Lumbar punctures
You do lumbar punctures yourself regularly.
Six months of psychiatry
The training also requires six months in psychiatry.
This test is a structured self-assessment, not a validated psychometric instrument. The specialty profiles are informed estimates. Use the result as a starting point for conversations and check it with shadowing days and talks with specialists. Training information applies to Germany; the binding rules are those of the relevant state medical chamber. Specialty preferences often change during medical school, so retake the test after new rotations.
